Case Study: BP And The Gulf Of
Mexico Oil Spill
1.
There are
many et
hical and unethical decisions and actions that BP,Transocean and Halliburtan. Whe
n
BP oil spill
occurred
, Halliburtan decide
d no
t to comment on safety issues
that resulted in accident just
because they used 6pillars
instead of 24.
Even BP itself made
unethical
decisions by ignoring the safety
of employees to make
profits
. Transocean ignored the pressure issues
.
2.Sen
ior authorities
must stick to the cod
es and
s
tandards and should
communicate to prevent the
risks.They
should build ethical standards and look for safety in addition to profits.
They must not ignore
the consequences of
any situation rather work on it to get it fixed so
that no one
is at risk.
3.Rules
and
regulations should
not only
be made but these should be implemented to improve the
compan
ies standard
s. Rewarding policies
should be made
so that employees feel that they are
valued
and
would show great
interest in work
.SWOT (Strength,
Weakness,
Oppo
rtunity,
Threat) analysis
can
help in making good decisions
.
4.To
overcome the s
ituation that should not cost much to company and in addition must not
put anyone
at risk
is to
pr
omote communication among the
senior authorities and all stakeholders. This wou
ld help
in
interacting that will ultimately lead to share views among each other
which will prevent the risks and
more
ideas .
5.
In my opinion
, BP
should reopen
well be
cause they
have gone through the thick and thi
n a
nd
are
aware of the problems and have m
ore e
xperience a
s they might have learned from their mistakes
so
now they can work well on it
.
